While the trend of open-plan offices with tens of people
sharing the same working space may encourage lax attitudes to the dress code,
the office workers feeling that clean decent clothes would do, even if casual,
managers and front-office staff will always wear corporate clothing or even
uniforms. Because they are the visible image of their company, the one that
business partners and clients see first. As such, suits for both women and men
are the ideal office outfit, or at least blouse and skirt or shirt and trousers
and tie, matching in terms of color and fabric. In their turn, colors should be
subdued rather than bright and fabrics of high quality, for sure not polyester.
In order to add a personal note, both women and men could wear jewelry, too, to
the extent is not in bad taste and does not look cheap.
With a two piece or three piece-suit, sets would be best,
necklace and earrings for women or cuff links and tiepins for men. While gold
looks gorgeous in general, maybe for corporate clothing white gold or silver
would work better, being less obtrusive and suiting more garment hues. As
regards the stones, there are plenty of natural stones on the jewelry market,
but again black diamond or mother of pearl could be matched to various colors
and look formal and classy under any circumstances.
For the rest, common sense would tell you not to wear
anklets, charm bracelets, heavy gold chains or large hoop earrings reaching
your shoulder with your office outfit because otherwise the impeccable
professional look will be definitely compromised.
If your company makes you wear scarves or ties with the
company logo on, you may adorn them with small scarf clips, brooches or tiepins
to avoid an overly accessorized look that would not do for smart clothes. If,
on the other hand, such items are not mandatory and men don't feel comfortable
with ties, they could accessorize and lighten their sober suits with expensive
watches or stylish gents' rings. Avoid, though gold encrusted with large rubies!
As for women, while one bangle would look fine, wearing many, clinking
incessantly, would be inconvenient for you and annoy the others.
So, even if you don't opt for sets, don't wear too many
pieces of jewelry and, especially, don't mix precious metals, stones, sizes and
styles. For instance, a string of large beads would not work with a tiny
diamond ring or some huge pendant with an almost invisible chain. Harmony is
paramount. Wholesale jewelry could definitely contribute to it, and you won't
waste your precious time shopping elsewhere.
